We know we have to meet players’ expectations – and also overcome the usual game development hurdles on top of that. We have to be mindful not only of the in-game balance, but also make sure any new character keeps the franchise holistic and fits into the Angry Birds universe. How difficult is the process in bringing a new character to a franchise that's both been around for so long and has such iconic characters already?Īnastasia Kharlamova: It’s not an easy process. Melody will be the first bird that can pick blocks up off the ground and use them to take down the pig towers. The brand-new ability we’re creating is unlike any existing bird in other Angry Birds franchises - Melody can inhale the blocks and pigs automatically, at which point the player can trigger her ability to shoot out those as projectiles to destroy remaining pig towers. With this new feature, we thought it was a great time to add a new character (Melody) to give players more strategic options and make the game more versatile. Earlier this year we added the “Pick Your Flock” feature, which allowed players to choose their team with their favorite birds, rather than just picking one bird for the whole flock.
